Passionate About…

Where do we start?  We’re a passionate bunch!

Did you know… 71% of the UK’s land is managed by farmers? We appreciate that’s a huge responsibility, so we try to do our best.  We’re not perfect, but we try.

We guess it all comes back to people: our family, our community and the wider world; supporting the people we live and work with; connecting people with where their food comes from; working in the environment to keep it healthy and ensure its diversity for future generations.

The Land

Traditional family farms like ours, using a mixed farming approach, create amazing wildlife habitats which also benefit farming and the wider community through environmentally sustainable food production.

And sustainable food production is vital for the future… leaving land to its own devices is one approach, but the only character we know who eats thistles is Eeyore!

It’s not just about the old ways, because combining the best of both traditional and new methods enables production of sufficient nutritious, good quality food to support an ever growing population.

We try new ideas, we push boundaries and we’re always looking for ways to do things better.

The People

Rural life can be hard and farming can be tough, which is why we work to keep our community activities alive and encourage new initiatives too. Like many of our neighbours, we devote time and effort to organisations including the RABI (Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution), NFU, The DPJ Foundation (mental health support in agriculture), Mental Health First Aid, Farm Women’s Club and Young Farmers… YFC is the biggest rural dating agency in the world and happens to be how Kate & Jim met!

Sharing it with you

We are genuinely passionate about what we do… we live it and we love it… and we love sharing it too.

Explaining what we do and why; sharing our insights; helping you with new skills and learning new ‘stuff’ ourselves too; simply meeting new people and having a great day together… that’s what Kate’s Country School is all about. We hope you enjoy!
