Keep Up With What’s Happening Here On The Farm...

A mix of information about the countryside, the farming year and snippets of family life here at Great Tre-rhew… sign up for our newsletter and keep in touch.

We promise we won’t overload your inbox, we’ll never share your details and we’ll guard them with our life... or at least Lass will, she’s very good at keeping an eye on stuff!

There’s so much more to country life than simply farming...

1 day courses, 2017

Course fees cover all course materials, refreshments, two-course lunch and your Kate’s Country School certificate.  Please bring your own wellies and overalls (though not necessarily for the writing course) and dress for our lovely Welsh weather!

To make life easy, you can pay securely on-line via PayPal… you don’t need a PayPal account (although they will ask you to register); any major credit or debit card can be used.  But if you don’t fancy wrestling with the technology, drop me an email and we can arrange alternative payment options.

If the course you're interested in is fully booked, please drop us an email; we'll be happy to add new dates if possible.

Traditional cider making (in our 17th century cider house)
Do you have a glut of apples every year?  Do they rot where they fall, a wasted resource?  Maybe you’re planning to plant a new orchard?  Or perhaps you simply fancy a day of traditional apple pressing and cider tasting.  From the trees to the fruit to the barrel (and into your glass too), this is a great introduction to the ancient arts of orchard keeping and cider making.
£90 per person  (Includes 2 course home produced lunch, box of cider and unlimited tastings)

Preserving made easy
Discover how easy it is (yes really!) to make the most of nature's bounty, use up a glut of produce and create simple (and simply delicious) preserves ... Get hands-on in the farm kitchen, making your own preserves, flavoured tipples and boozy truffles to take home.  There’s lots of tasting along the way and a full recipe pack for when you’re back in your own kitchen.

Dates TBA; please check back.

Bespoke team building days
Fun, fact-filled, motivating days for groups large or small (minimum of 6). Sheep wrangling is extremely popular (with a variety of ovine activities) but we also offer cider making and other country pursuits.  No matter what the activity, everyone gets to relax at the end of the day in our 17th century cider house... hic!

Home produced two course lunch (and cider) included.

Country writing

Could you be a rural raconteur, a pastoral poet, a bucolic blogger?  Could your writings reflect the landscapes, characters, wildlife and underlying rhythms of the countryside?  Perhaps you might even earn some money from it!  Discover your potential, find out how to get started and learn a few professional tricks along the way.  Enjoy the course then apply the final polish at home.  Your tutor will provide a written and confidential assessment of your work on request: all part of the service!
Max 8 people; £90 per person
Sadly this course will remain forever full but I cannot bring myself to remove it from the website yet. RIP Dad.

Remember to check-out our livestock courses too:

Lambing  -  Sheep Husbandry  -  A Taste of the Goodlife  -  Shearing

If you’d like to discuss any of our courses in more detail, please feel free to drop me an email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
