Keep Up With What’s Happening Here On The Farm...

A mix of information about the countryside, the farming year and snippets of family life here at Great Tre-rhew… sign up for our newsletter and keep in touch.

We promise we won’t overload your inbox, we’ll never share your details and we’ll guard them with our life... or at least Lass will, she’s very good at keeping an eye on stuff!

Straight from the horse’s mouth…

But we think they’d just say nice things about us because they live here and we feed them, so we asked some students (and people we’ve worked alongside) instead!

Here’s what they said…

Perfect combination of classroom and practicals.  Loved the informal family atmosphere, a cracking lunch and lovely cider at the end!  Thank you Jim & Kate.
Rob, Longtown

A great sunny day! A real pleasure to be back again, super experience. I'll be back!
Paul, Nuneaton

So hands on!  Gave us much more confidence for our first lambing next month.  Fantastic day.
Anthony, Coed Morgan

From otter poo to river dipping to bonking beetles - via trees, grasses and amazing sights. Truly inspiring and great fun too!
Clare, Llanfair Green.

Had such a lovely time – am totally blissed out – I will definitely be coming back!
Lizzy, London

Found it really good, as in practical hands on experience.  Also take-away research / reference papers.  Learnt a great deal.  Brilliant.
Mandi, Rogerstone

Brilliant! Gave me confidence to try shearing for myself in a friendly and professional environment.
Guy, Hereford.

What a wonderful day. Great cider, fantastic food, brilliant company and a surprise whisky! Many thanks.

An amazing glimpse into the life of a working farm. Thank you for making us part of your farm family for the day.

So glad to hear how successful Kate's Country School is. It was always going to be though - you are both the perfect teachers and perfect hosts and it's great being part of the family for the day. I'm hooked!
Claire, Torfaen. (just booked on her 7th course)

Having worked at lambing time with Jim and Kate, I can honestly say their high standards of animal husbandry, attention to detail and understanding of their stock; combined with a deep commitment to traditional farming values and genuine passion for wildlife and the countryside, are just so refreshing; quite simply great people and a great place to be.
Adam Henson; Lambing Live, Countryfile & Cotswold Farm Park

Beware of the Beavans!  They will change your life.  I spent the best part of seven months on their farm as a trainee shepherd for Lambing Live.  When I arrived I barely knew one end of a sheep from another.  Now I have my own flock, my own farm and I've just gone through my first season of lambing on my own (but with Jim and Kate on speed dial).  They will give you a rare and privileged insight into farming life; you will laugh a lot, learn a lot, and you may even get to drink some of their very fine cider, if Jim hasn't finished it...
